How topics are ranked
Topics are English Wikipedia articles ranked by human pageviews over the period. Rising compares average daily views with the period before it (the prior week for 24 hours and 7 days, the prior 30 days for 30 days) among topics averaging at least 500 views a day. Articles whose views are mostly automated are left out, as are non-article pages. Wikipedia publishes each UTC day’s counts the following day.
Straight from the source
Topic data comes from the Wikimedia pageviews API ↗; searches come from Google Trends’ Trending now ↗ feed, refreshed every 10 minutes. Google does not publish search history for these terms, so they are listed rather than charted.
